Treating Non-unions With SoftWave Therapy

A nonunion is when broken bones don’t heal even after time and treatment. Nonunions occur when a bone suffers from inadequate blood flow, stability, or both. They become more likely to form after a high-impact injury which can halt blood supply to the injured bone.

A nonunion is when broken bones don’t heal even after time and treatment. Nonunions occur when a bone suffers from inadequate blood flow, stability, or both. They become more likely to form after a high-impact injury which can halt blood supply to the injured bone.

SoftWave can be a powerful and effective treatment solution for non-unions. SoftWave is clinically proven with a 61% to 91% improvement in musculoskeletal and general pain complaints. It has helped thousands of patients get real lasting relief.

Sadly, 1.9% of adults suffer from non-unions, leading to intense and persistent pain that inhibits mobility. Non-union symptoms include:

  • Pain at the point of breakage
  • Persistent gap in the bone spanning the point of fracture
  • Bone not healing over the course of months

Common causes of non-unions include inadequate stability or blood flow in a bone, high-impact injuries that cause broken bones, diabetes, old age, poor nutrition, tobacco use, low vitamin D levels, infection, and complicated bone breaks.

SoftWave providers can develop a plan to treat non-unions. With our $69 New Patient Special, you can try SoftWave today and learn if you’re a candidate for treatment.

Andrew

"I feel like I have a brand new knee. I seriously feel like I could run 2 miles with no problem. Like, there's no pain. That has never happened in the last 5 months. I have never had a day where it has been like, feeling like my right knee. I'm speechless."  "I don't know why this isn't everywhere. This should be everywhere. People can heal so much faster if we had this technology." Andrew experienced knee pain for months after his surgery. Then he discovered SoftWave.

Emma

"This is the least pain I've had in probably 8 years in my whole back." Emma has been enduring scoliosis with rods on her spine since she was 15, and with SoftWave therapy she finally felt pain relief.

Samantha

"I wish we would've found you before she had surgery, you know. That probably would have prevented her having surgery." Samantha, who was suffering from paralysis from the legs down, can finally wiggle her toes after SoftWave therapy.

Shockwave Therapy for Nonunion Fractures in High-Energy Trauma

This study investigated the use of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) to treat nonhealing fractures in trauma patients. A case series of 50 patients with stable nonunion fractures of the tibia and femur underwent up to three sessions of ESWT. The results showed successful bone healing in 68% of tibia nonunions and 52% of femur nonunions, without any complications. CT scans provided valuable information about the fracture anatomy, aiding in the targeted application of ESWT. The study concluded that ESWT is a safe and effective non-invasive method to promote bone healing in trauma patients with nonhealing fractures, offering a promising alternative to invasive procedures.

Shockwave Therapy Shows Success in Treating Nonunion of the Tibia

This study investigates the effectiveness of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) in the treatment of nonunion of the tibia. 192 patients underwent ESWT at a trauma center in Vienna, Austria. Results showed that 80.2% of patients had complete fracture healing, with a mean time of 4.8+/-4.0 months from the first ESWT treatment to complete healing. The study concludes that ESWT is a feasible treatment for tibia nonunion.

Shockwave Therapy Enhances Healing of Scaphoid Nonunion

Scaphoid nonunion, a challenging condition for hand surgeons, can be effectively treated using extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) in combination with surgery. A retrospective study analyzed 42 patients with scaphoid nonunions, and after a mean follow-up of 52 months, a union was achieved in 79% of cases. The use of two headless compression screws or a plate for stabilization resulted in higher union rates compared to using only one screw. Additionally, the group that received ESWT alongside surgery reported lower pain scores and better functional outcomes. These findings highlight the benefits of ESWT in promoting the healing of scaphoid nonunion, providing a valuable treatment option for patients with this condition.

SoftWave is performed with a patented device called the OrthoGold, developed by Tissue Regeneration Technologies, and is available at licensed medical clinics throughout the United States. This FDA(510k) cleared technology produces powerful, unfocused shock waves delivered during treatment to an injured, scarred, or inflamed region of the body. Treatment typically takes 10-15 minutes, and no anesthesia, numbing agents, or recovery time is required.
