L-Citrulline Boosts Angiogenesis and Regeneration During Shockwave Therapy
Title of study: Complementary effect of L-citrulline supplementation on SparkWave™ therapy-induced angiogenesis and regeneration
SparkWave™ therapy (SW™T) is a non-invasive treatment option for various conditions such as ischemic heart disease, erectile dysfunction, wound healing, and traumatized bones. It works by activating cells and growth factors to promote tissue restoration and nerve generation through angiogenesis. L-citrulline is an amino acid that is converted into L-arginine in the kidneys, which is a precursor of nitric oxide (NO) – a vasodilatory mediator that plays a crucial role in the process of angiogenesis and vascular function. L-citrulline increases NO levels more efficiently than L-arginine, which is extensively broken down in the gastrointestinal tract. Additionally, oral L-citrulline supplementation improves erectile function.
This study aims to investigate the complementary effect of L-citrulline supplementation on SW™T-induced angiogenesis and regeneration. The researchers found that L-citrulline supplementation enhances the efficacy of SW™T by ensuring a constant bioavailability of L-arginine and NO, thus boosting the process of angiogenesis. This can be utilized to support, accelerate, and synergize the process of angiogenesis during SW™T-assisted penile augmentation phalloplasty.
In summary, L-citrulline supplementation can enhance the effectiveness of SW™T in promoting tissue restoration and nerve generation through angiogenesis. This can lead to faster healing and better outcomes for patients with conditions such as ischemic heart disease, erectile dysfunction, wound healing, and traumatized bones.
