Treating Scar Tissue With SoftWave Therapy

Once a wound or injury heals, it may leave a scar. Scars can manifest as an overgrowth of tissue, a line, or a hole, and are a natural part of the healing process. Though most scars fade over time, they usually do not disappear completely.

Scars can cause emotional distress if they appear in a visible location like the face, potentially leading to depression. However, some treatments, like SoftWave, may work to make scarring less visible. Symptoms of scar tissue include:

  • aching, throbbing, or sharp localized pain
  • increased sensitivity
  • restricted movement
  • Itching or tingling

Lumisha

"Oh my goodness. Whenever I stand up, I would feel a sharp pain in my knee. When I got off the table after treatment, I didn't feel the pain for the first time I guess maybe in 12 years." "When I came in here, I was dragging my knee along. Now I'm walking. I can lift it. Oh, I can bend it! I could not bend my knee before. Thank you from the bottom of my heart" Lumisha suffered from severe knee pain. SoftWave provided real relief for the first time in years.

Samantha

"I wish we would've found you before she had surgery, you know. That probably would have prevented her having surgery." Samantha, who was suffering from paralysis from the legs down, can finally wiggle her toes after SoftWave therapy.

Emma

"Oh my gosh. This is the least pain I've had in probably 8 years in my whole back. When I bend over it doesn’t hurt" Emma has had scoliosis and back pain for years. After one SoftWave treatment, she experienced a significant decrease in pain.

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy for Retracting Scars of the Hands

This study evaluated unfocused shock wave treatment, with or without manual therapy, for reducing retracting scars on the hands. Scar improvement, hand mobility, and pain reduction were assessed using various scales. After just five treatment sessions, significant improvements were observed in scar appearance, pain reduction, and range of movement in each treatment group. These improvements were sustained even two weeks after the final session. Histopathological analysis showed increased dermal fibroblasts, improved blood vessel formation, and higher collagen concentration.

Shock Waves: A New Non-Surgical Method to Treat Severe Burns

This study examined its effects on such burns in 15 patients treated at our emergency burn unit. Two ESWT sessions were conducted on the third and fifth day after injury, using laser Doppler imaging (LDI) to assess tissue perfusion before each session. The results demonstrated promising outcomes, with 80% of treated burns healing smoothly within three weeks. Surgical intervention and grafting were required for only 15% of cases, and hypertrophic scarring developed in only 5%. Remarkably, after just one ESWT session, burns exhibited a significant increase in tissue perfusion, as evidenced by LDI images. Extracorporeal shock wave therapy emerges as a non-invasive, safe, and cost-effective approach for deep partial/full-thickness burns, potentially reducing the need for surgery and the associated patient morbidity.

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy for Treatment of Keloid Scars

This study compared the effectiveness of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) and steroid injection for treating keloid scars. Both treatments showed significant improvements in scar appearance, with ESWT resulting in a reduction in collagen fibers. Functional outcomes and patient/observer assessments were similar between the two groups. The study concluded that ESWT is a promising treatment option for keloid scars, offering comparable results to steroid injections while potentially reducing collagen fibers.
